Qatar National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR) will organize an international conference in Doha Sheraton Hotel from 20 to 21 February.

Conference will be held in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers and the Arab Network of National Institutions for Human Rights and is honorary sponsored by the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States of the Gulf, Arab Maghreb Union and the Arab Parliament with ' Human Rights approaches in addressing conflict situations in the Arab region'.

Conference will be attended by government officials, UN peace keeping missions, international & regional governmental and non-governmental organizations, national human rights institutions and organizations as well as researchers and experts in the field of policy. In addition the UN agencies and the UNHCHR offices and missions in the Arab region.

Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, Qatar NHRC Secretary General said in a statement today that the conference will bring together for the first time human rights organizations and humanitarian and conflict resolution centers.

Al Attiyah noted that the conference aims to promote human rights-based approach in addressing conflicts and crises, identify human rights-based early warning mechanisms, strengthen the channels of dialogue in order to prevent crisis situations from developing into armed conflicts, and provide remedies to address concerns regarding the human rights.

She added the conference will look into developing post-conflict strategies and exchange good practices and new initiatives in the field of cooperation between international and regional human rights mechanisms and peacekeeping missions and civil society, as well as identify and develop non-military mechanisms for conflict management and promotion of the rule of law in order to ensure the protection of human rights in times of conflict in the Arab region, pointing out that during the conference many papers will be presented.

NHRC Secretary General explained that the conference will be divided into two parts. First of which will be dedicated to interactive dialogue on the integration of human rights strategies and policies in the global strategies of the United Nations on tackling violent extremism, preventing terrorism, and peace processes, and the link between violations of economic, social and cultural rights and social unrest and conflict.
