National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) in cooperation with the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science organized lectures on human rights for students and teachers. Four schools participated in the event held at Ahmed bin Hanbal Independent Secondary School for Boys.
Nayef Musabah Al-Shammari, Legal Specialist, Head of Reception and Registration Section, Department of Legal Affairs gave presentation on definition of human rights, it's development, characteristics and sources.
Shammari gave a brief on international and regional conventions, national legislation provides respect and protect human rights.
He said that all conventions are already covered under Islamic Sharia since 14th century. AlShammari said that NHRC since its establishment has it's mission and objectives for protection of human rights.
He explained about the working of NHRC's Department of Legal Affairs in regards to its role on Complaints received and further action in finding the solutions. In this regard, he gave a number of examples to students.
Ali Moharram, Advisor to Legal Department briefed also on various aspects of definition on human rights. He said that Human rights can be defined as "all guarantees that protect individuals and groups from any actions or violations or excesses or abuses, whatever their origin, with a view to preserving the human and human dignity and empowerment of every human being without distinction as human beings to live in dignity, and freedom from fear and need. " In addition, it is a set of values, norms and principles that the international community as a whole agreed to consider as basic conditions for the guarantee of human dignity, and said that human rights constitute a whole and indivisible whole and affirms all human rights regardless of race, race or religion.
He told that all UN resolutions, Universal Declarations, international Conventions provide full protection including civil, political rights, economic, social and cultural rights to all equally.
