ANNHRI praised notable Efforts made by Oman Human Rights Committee in upholding the standard

Secretary General of The Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI), Sultan bin Hassan Al-Jamali lauded the admirable efforts in achieving  and implementing international and ANNHRI standards reflected in the first report submitted by  Oman National Human Rights  Committee.

He was addressing to the Charter Committee at the League of Arab States’ in Cairo.

AlJamali emphasized that this accomplishment is the result of joint efforts and fruitful collaboration among various Omani institutions, especially the Omani Human Rights Commission. He stated that the Omani Committee serves as an effective national platform for supporting, promoting, and protecting human rights within Omani society.

The committee works to cultivate a human rights culture, enhance its practice, and ensure its protection in alignment with both national laws and international standards.

Al-Jamali further noted the significant efforts made during both this and previous sessions to strengthen cooperation between the Network and the Arab Charter on Human Rights member states.

He acknowledged the importance of collaboration with national human rights institutions, particularly those established under the Paris Principles of 1993.

The Omani Committee, for example, cooperated with the Charter Committee during their visit to Oman in preparation for this session. During this visit, the Committee was briefed on developments within Oman’s human rights system, both at the legislative and institutional levels, as well as in terms of policies and practices.

Al-Jamali praised the Omani Committee’s positive cooperation, which culminated in the submission of its parallel report to the Charter Committee. This report was based on facts gathered through monitoring, complaints, data collection, and coordination with various stakeholders, reflecting a high level of independence and objectivity.

He also emphasized the collaboration among the Arab Network’s national human rights institutions, which work as a unified team to promote and protect human rights across the Arab region through knowledge exchange and mutual support.

Al-Jamali specifically highlighted the support provided to the Independent Commission for Human Rights in Palestine, aiming to confront the violations committed by the Israeli occupation, particularly in Gaza, where Israel’s actions have amounted to genocide.

He pointed out that the Network has intensified its cooperation with the Palestinian Commission, as well as with international and UN organizations, to pressure countries into implementing resolutions from the International Charter, the International Court of Justice, and the International Criminal Court.

These efforts seek to end the brutal war in Gaza, hold Israeli war criminals accountable, and ensure that the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people is realized, allowing them to return to their land and live in freedom, peace, and dignity in their independent state, with Jerusalem as its capital, Secretary General ANNHRI concluded.
