Qatar: MoPH Hosts Workshop on Medical Licence Responsibility for Healthcare Practitioners

The Ministry of Public Health recently organized a Two-day workshop titled 'Your Licence, Your Responsibility' for  medical doctors working in the private and semi-government sectors and contact officers from private and semi-government healthcare facilities.

The workshop was held at Itqan Medical Simulation and Innovation Centre at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City. It aimed to raise doctors' awareness of the importance of obtaining a professional licence, clarify the steps and requirements necessary to acquire and renew the licence, outline the requirements for obtaining surgical privileges, and explain the consequences of non-compliance with licensure requirements.

It also covered the requirements for continuous professional development.

The session addressed several important topics, including the procedures and requirements for services provided by the Department of Healthcare Professions of the Ministry of Public Health, such as requests for changing the workplace, how to comply with the requirements for obtaining continuous professional development to renew a licence, and the mechanisms for achieving it.

Ms Jawaher Al Ali, Director of Registration at the Department of Healthcare Professions of the Ministry of Public Health, stated that the workshop is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness among healthcare practitioners, especially medical doctors, about the need to obtain and regularly renew their professional licences to ensure the safety and quality of healthcare services provided in Qatar.

She emphasised that the practitioner is responsible for licensure.

The Accreditation Section of the Department of Healthcare Professions presented a detailed overview of the National Medical Education and Continuous Professional Development Programme during the workshop, noting that the programme represents a significant advancement in the healthcare sector.

It aims to deliver outstanding, high-quality healthcare services to all patients in Qatar in line with the National Health Strategy and Qatar Vision 2030.

It is also mandatory for all healthcare practitioners in Qatar to actively participate in medical education and continuous professional development programmes as a condition for renewing their professional licences in the country.
