Polish Museum Expert Stresses On Cooperation Between Qatar-Polish Museums

University of Warsaw, Poland in collaboration with the embassy of Qatar in Warsaw and embassy of Poland in Qatar has recently organized second learning and familiarization cultural  program in connection with the Arab Culture Week celebrated during mid of the last month.
Dr. Magdalena Pinker, Polish lecturer at the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies and Chief Curator in the department of Oriental Art, National Museum, Warsaw had given then a presentation on Qatari museums and role of Qatar in development and preservation of culture.

In her exclusive on-line interview with the writer, Dr. Pinker said that it was a second year that students of Arabic Studies Research Group at the University of Warsaw participated during Annual Arab Culture Week this year. The interview was arranged with the cooperation and support of embassy of Poland in Qatar.

She paid her special thanks to Qatari envoy in Poland Abdullah Fakhroo and Janusz Janke, polish envoy to Qatar of their keen interest and valuable support.

 Dr. Pinker said that aim of their participation was to familiarize the students about history, culture and arts of the Arabic and Islamic world. Moreover, initiative taken by Polish University also helped increasing the sensibility towards cultural differences between Qatar and Polish among the Polish viewers.

She said that program was organized in such a way whereby more and more people may be attracted from all segments of the Polish society. Among these events  included museums in Qatar;  interviews of Bassem Akiki, Polish-Lebanese conductor and music director of Warsaw Opera; interview of author of Arabic book ‘The Anthology of Polish Poetry from Kochanowski Till Modern Times’ by Hatif Janabi, renowned Polish-Iraqi poet & writer; Preparation of certain Arabic dishes and Syrian cuisine; and traditional Palestinian dance ‘Dabke’.

Talking about her interest in Qatari museums, Polish researcher said that she is a doctorate in Arabic studies,  is a University lecturer on Museums and by profession  working as Chief Curator in the national museum of Poland, therefore, amazing architecture of Qatari museums, the role of Qatar in preserving it’s heritage and traditions and it’s developent have been of great interest to her.

Dr. Pinker said that the history of museums in Qatar dates back to the beginning of the independence in early1970s, when the first Qatar National Museum was founded. She said that with the entry in 21st century, it brought real change and Qatar became an important place in the world for those interested in art and museums in general.

She admired the remarkable architecture work of the Museum of Islamic Art by world’s renowned American-Chinese architect I. M. Pei and spectacular buildings of National Museum of Qatar designed by Jean Nouvel along with the preserved artefacts which have always been the cause of tourists visiting Qatar and of her deep interests, she added.

Polish expert on museums stressed on the international cooperation between cultural institutions as a vital part of museums activities. She said that cultural exchanges and organizing of exhibitions between Qatar and Polish cultural institutions will be of great benefit to the both sides of artists, art lovers as well as bringing closer the people of both the countries.
 
She intends to visit Qatar at earliest when pandemic Covid-19 restrictions are relaxed to witness the recent developments in detail and possibilities of cooperation.
