A stunning collection of legendary carpets hailing from an ancient town in Turkey and laying claim to a unique artistic heritage of its own, Hereke carpets historic masterpieces display opened this evening at the Doha Gate Mall Shopping Mall. Exhibition of Unique pieces of carpets is organised by The Gate Mall and Salam International Investment Ltd in collaboration with Turkey’s Han Hali, the leading production house of Turkey’s Hereke carpets.

From Buckingham Palace, to the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the White House to Château de Versailles, the carpets are known to adorn iconic locations celebrating an artistic discipline that is admired by the world.

As a leading player in Qatar’s luxury and retail sector The Gate Mall has built a reputation of supporting multiple artistic initiatives by launching an Art Season at the beginning of October 2016. The season is set to culminate at the end of January 2017 at the Hereke Exhibition.

Commenting on the grand opening of the exhibition, Salam International’s Chairman and CEO Mr. Issa AbdulSalam Abu Issa said, “Salam International is truly proud to support The Gate Mall in its efforts to enrich and elevate the art and culture environment in Qatar through initiatives like this. The Hereke Carpet exhibition gives people a reason to revisit a rich historical legacy of the region and truly appreciate stunning craftsmanship."

" The history behind creating this particular type of carpet goes as far back as the mid-15th century. A glance around the display, will confirm that most of these modern pieces on display have taken artists over 6 years or more to create because they have followed a timeless tradition and revived a glorious artistic heritage that is genuinely breathtaking”, Abu Issa said

The 100% handmade Hereke silk carpets customarily carry 64 knots and over loops per centimeter, making it a tribute to the unending patience of its weaver. A Hereke weaver is said to tie at least one million knots in a finished carpet, while crafting extremely intricate, fine designs.

Han Hali, the creators of the carpets currently on display at The Gate Mall have developed a portfolio of over 25,000 exquisite carpet designs among which are collections in the likes of Classical Hereke with fabulous Ottoman motifs, to Turkish-Islamic designs that celebrate the illustrious transition to Islam.

Istanbul Voyage is another a picturesque collection of fascinating panoramas of Istanbul. These, among many other designs form the full collection at the exhibition.

The Hereke Carpet exhibition is scheduled to run whole day from the 11th to the 31st of January 2017 at The Gate Mall.
