Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and the Qatari Emir held a meeting today. Both the leaders witnessed signing ceremony of an agreement and six memorandums of understanding pertaining to various sectors.
Among these include memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of education, higher education and scientific research; cooperation between the Public Prosecution in the State of Qatar and the Office of Attorney General in Nepal; cooperation in the field of youth and sports; culture and arts between the Ministry of Culture in the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation in Nepal; an agreement on cooperation and news exchange between the Qatar News Agency and the National News Agency of Nepal; memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of diplomatic training and education between the Diplomatic Institute in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and the Institute of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Nepal; and renewal of the memorandum of understanding signed between the Qatar Chamber and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce; and agreement to establish a joint business council between the Qatar Chamber and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce.
The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani later concluded his tri-nation official visit which included Philippines, Bangladesh and Nepal.
President Ram Chandra Paudel bid farewell to Amir of Qatar at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
Present at the TIA to see off the Emir were Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav; Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal; Speaker Devraj Ghimire; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth; Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Shakti Bahadur Basnet; Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Hit Bahadur Tamang; and Chief Secretary Baikuntha Aryal; among other high officials.
A contingent of the Nepali Army offered a guard of honor and fired 21 cannon salvoes on the occasion.
The Qatari Emir arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday for the state visit at President Paudel's invitation.
The Qatari Emir and President Paudel held talks at the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas in the evening of the same day. President Paudel hosted a dinner in Emir's honor the same evening.
Prime Minister Dahal and the Qatari Emir held a meeting today. The two countries signed an agreement and six memorandums of understanding in various areas of ooperation during the occasion.
This marks a Qatari Emir's first visit to Nepal after the two countries established diplomatic ties on January 21, 1977.
Nepal had set up its embassy in Doha on July 11, 2000, and the Embassy of Qatar in Kathmandu in August 2011.
