Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of State of Qatar, on Monday received a phone call from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Discussion during the call focused on the Qatari-US close strategic relations and ways to support and develop them, particularly enhancing joint coordination on regional and international issues.

During the call, the US Secretary of State expressed his country's gratitude to the State of Qatar for facilitating the release of American citizen George Glezmann, who was detained in Afghanistan, commending Qatar's efforts to establish security, peace, and stability in Afghanistan and the region.

The official statement released on 20th March by US Department of State in this regard states that Today, after two and a half years of captivity in Afghanistan, Delta Airlines mechanic George Glezmann is on his way to be reunited with his wife, Aleksandra. George joins American Ryan Corbett and William McKenty, who were released from Afghanistan on the night of President Trump’s inauguration and returned home to their families.

We extend our deepest appreciation to the State of Qatar, whose steadfast commitment and diplomatic efforts were instrumental in securing George’s release. Qatar has consistently proven to be a reliable partner and trusted mediator, facilitating complex negotiations.

George’s release is a positive and constructive step. It is also a reminder that other Americans are still detained in Afghanistan.  President Trump will continue his tireless work to free ALL Americans unjustly detained around the world.

"Today is a good day," US former Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad mentioned on X account.
Talking to some of the media members, Afghan Foreign ministry spokesman Hafiz Zia Ahmad said that Glezmann was freed on 'humanitarian grounds' and as  goodwill gesture. He said that the US delegation was the first since US President Donald Trump took office in January.
US delegation was consists of US hostage envoy Adam Boehler, and Zalmay Khalilzad.
Afghan Ministry of  Foreign Affairs in a statement said that the release reflects Afghanistan's readiness to genuinely engaging all sides, particularly the United States of America, on the basis of mutual respect and interests.
