Mrs. Maryam bint Abdullah Al-Attiyah, President of Doha based Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) , affirmed its continous efforts with the support and cooperation of Independent Commission for Human Rights in Palestine, to empower and enhance capabilities by promoting and protecting human rights for Palestinians, the victim of continuined systematic violations of the Israeli occupation, its Judaization policies against the occupied city of East Jerusalem, use of excessive force against defenseless civilians, continously violations of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Church of Holy Sepulcher, and the assault and harassment of worshipers in them.
She was addressing at the opening of educational dialogue symposium "The Role of National Mechanisms in Promoting Human Rights" organized by the Arab Network in partnership with the Omani Commission for Human Rights in Muscat.
She said that the occupied forces continue to pursue a policy of targeting Palestinian journalists, beating and their arrest, and many are martyred in the hands of the occupied brutal forces.
She ssid, recently, Al-Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh was not only martyred but also her funeral, was attacked, disregarding the Sharia and the international human rights laws.
Al-Attiyah briefed on Network's responsibilities and goals for promoting and protecting human rights by empowering and supporting national institutions are also as per Paris Principles of 93.
She added that the alliance encourages the development of cooperation of national institutions with international mechanisms
She said:bthat ANNHRI participation in organizing this educational symposium was to strengthen the programs of member institutions at the national level to enhance the capabilities of human rights workers in all segments and sectors, thus contributing to greater interaction with the national, regional and international human rights system.
She added: It was and still is a matter of pleasure and pride for the National Human Rights Committee in Qatar (NHRC), to host the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, this hosting approved by the founding institutions of the Arab Network at the seventh meeting of Arab National Institutions for Human Rights in Nouakchott in 2011.
NHRC has worked on institutionalizing the Arab Network and providing the necessary support for it, in cooperation with member institutions and partners from the United Nations, international human rights organizations, civil society organizations, and the League of Arab States, as well as in cooperation with academics, activists and human rights experts.
Therefore, the Global Alliance is working to achieve this; By encouraging the establishment of institutions and providing support to them in various fields, and by unifying and coordinating efforts and exchanging experiences and best practices, in cooperation with all United Nations offices, programmes, teams and commissions, especially the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, out of his belief in the unity and universality of the human rights process, and the need for cooperation and integration by national institutions, civil society and state institutions International organizations and all stakeholders to preserve human dignity, promoting in this framework the "principle of leaving no one behind" to achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Sheikh Abdullah Binshaween Al-Hosani, Chairman, Omani Committee for Human Rights, said that convening of the symposium confirm its support to the foundations, and legislations and administrative laws that are adopted and implemented by the Sultanate of Oman within the framework of protecting the rights and dignity of human beings for all those who live on the land of the country, through national mechanisms that have been established in all the state institutions.
Al-Hosani valued the response of all the parties by participating rhat also witnesses the extent of cooperation and interaction and the constant concern of all the concerned society institutions, and the competent civil society institutions to work together for the implementation and follow-up of everything relating to human rights legislation and laws and their protection.
Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali, Secretary General of the Arab Network said that the Network plays role as a bridge between national human rights institutions and civil society as well as between governments on the one hand, and between governments and the international community on the other, due to their unique position within the international human rights system.
He said that the work of the National Institution is effective as a result of the broad authority and powers that it has as a state institution and its convergence with the leadership of civil society, with stable, independent and sufficient funding from the state to carry out its tasks.
AlJamali said that because of its credibility with international bodies and mechanisms, confidence of governments in them, the institutions must play their role entrusted with promoting and protecting the rights of citizens.
