Türkiye-Qatar Supreme Strategic Committee, A Pillar of Regional Cooperation and Global Stability, Turkish Envoy

The leaders of Qatar and Turkiye co-chaired the 10th dialogue on Turkiye-Qatar High Strategic Committee held in Ankara on Thursday, 14th of November. Both the sides signed additional eight MoUs on the occasion. These agreements underscore the commitment of both Türkiye and Qatar to deepen their strategic partnership across multiple fields, from humanitarian aid to defence.

Anadolu News Agency reported about agreements signed included a pact on cooperation in humanitarian assistance, aimed at enhancing joint efforts in crisis response and support for vulnerable communities.

In the economic sphere, the two countries signed a declaration of intent to simplify and boost trade, aiming to strengthen economic ties and increase bilateral trade flows.

In defence, the countries strengthened their strategic alliance through two agreements: one on technical cooperation between their defence ministries, and another on military cooperation, underscoring their shared commitment to enhancing defence capabilities and expertise.

Additionally, they signed a memorandum on media and communication, which will enhance collaboration in sharing information and promoting cultural exchange.

Türkiye and Qatar also agreed on a joint program for youth and sports for 2025–2026, promoting youth engagement and sports development.

In the transportation sector, an agreement on international road transport and logistics was signed, which will facilitate the transport of goods and passengers between the two nations.

Another agreement focuses on collaboration in documentation and archiving, facilitating the exchange of historical and administrative resources.

Anadolu News Agency reported Turkish President Erdogan comments on X as 'We will continue to strengthen our close cooperation with our friendly and brotherly nation, Qatar, with each passing day'.

Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad AlThani expressed his comments on X that ' During my meeting with my brother Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as part of the 10th session of the Türkiye-Qatar High Strategic Committee in Ankara today, I reaffirmed our commitment to further strengthen our strategic relations in a way that serves the interests of both countries in all areas'.

'I was pleased with the shared enthusiasm to enhance our bilateral partnerships and deepen our historic friendship', he added.

In Doha, talking to Qatar News Agency, official news agency of State of Qatar, Turkiye's envoy to Qatar Dr. Mustafa Goksu commented on 10th Dialogue held in Ankara.

Dr. Mustafa Goksu said that the Türkiye-Qatar Supreme Strategic Committee (SSC), established in 2014, has been instrumental in enhancing bilateral relations by providing a structured platform for collaboration across a wide range of areas, including politics, economy, defense, security, education, and culture.

He said that as the highest-level coordination mechanism, the SSC strengthens the historic ties between our nations, fostering mutual support, joint initiatives, and aligned policies. It formalizes our shared vision, deepening the fraternal relationship between Türkiye and Qatar.

Talking on the key topics during the meeting, he said that both sides focused on several key issues, including expanding bilateral trade, advancing joint investment projects, and enhancing defense, energy, and environmental cooperation. Moreover, the session marks a significant milestone in our growing strategic partnership, underscoring our commitment to comprehensive, mutually beneficial relations.

Talking about the achievements made during previous sessions, he said that the SSC has been remarkably successful, with 108 agreements signed across diverse sectors, such as politics, commerce, defense, and military cooperation. This has transformed our relationship into a strategic partnership based on trust and a solid legal foundation.

He further added that economic ties have flourished, with bilateral trade increasing five fold over the past decade. More than 1,000 Turkish companies now operate in Qatar, and nearly 200 Qatari companies are established in Türkiye. Qatari investments in Türkiye have spanned sectors like tourism, agriculture, and real estate, while Turkish construction companies in Qatar have contributed over $20 billion in projects.

Talking on cooperation in defense sector, he said that cooperation has expanded with the joint military base in Qatar and new initiatives, such as the establishment of air and naval component commands.

He added that cultural and educational collaborations have also grown, with institutions like the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center in Doha promoting Turkish language and culture, and partnerships between the Turkish Maarif Foundation and Qatari universities facilitating educational exchanges.

Talking on the importance of  dialogues in current global and regional context, Dr. Mustafa Goksu said that  the 10th SSC session comes at a critical time, given the shifting geopolitical landscape and regional tensions. This meeting offers an opportunity to strengthen cooperation, coordinate responses to emerging crises, and address shared challenges.

He added that both nations are committed to promoting regional stability and humanitarian efforts, particularly through their joint support for a just resolution to the Palestinian issue. In a time of global uncertainties, the Türkiye-Qatar partnership remains a beacon of stability, driven by a shared vision for peace and prosperity.
