The Palestinian group Hamas on Wednesday categorically rejected US President Donald Trump's plan to "take over" Gaza after resettling Palestinians elsewhere, describing his remarks as "irresponsible."
In a statement, the Hamas group said Trump's remarks were "aggressive to our people and cause, and won't serve stability in the region."
Hamas stressed that it won't allow "any state in the world to occupy our land or impose guardianship on our great Palestinian people."
It urged the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to urgently convene to follow up on Trump's "dangerous statements, and take a firm and historic position that preserves the Palestinian people's national rights."
Earlier, Izzat Al-Rishq, a member of the Hamas movement’s political bureau, said Trump's remarks reflected "confusion and a profound ignorance of the Palestinian cause and the region as a whole."
"Gaza is not a common territory for any party to decide its fate; it is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian land," Al-Rishq said.
He affirmed that "any resolution must be based on ending the occupation and fulfilling the legitimate national rights of our people, rather than on the logic of power, dominance, or a real estate dealer’s mindset."
The Hamas leader added that Trump's remarks "reaffirm the United States’ full bias in favor of the Israeli occupation and its ongoing aggression against our people and their rights."
Late on Tuesday, Trump said the United States “will take over” the Gaza Strip after resettling Palestinians elsewhere under an extraordinary redevelopment plan that he claimed could turn the enclave into “the Riviera of the Middle East.”
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas rejected on Wednesday US President Donald Trump’s proposal to take over the Gaza Strip and resettle Palestinians elsewhere.
"We will not allow the rights of our people, for which we have struggled for decades, to be infringed upon,” Abbas said in a statement.
“These calls represent a serious violation of international law, and peace and stability in the region will not be achieved without the establishment of the Palestinian state," he added.
Trump said during a press conference in Washington with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu late Tuesday that the US “will take over” Gaza after relocating Palestinians elsewhere under an extraordinary redevelopment plan that he claimed could turn the enclave into “the Riviera of the Middle East.”
Abbas stressed that the Gaza Strip “is an integral part of the Palestinian land" alongside the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
“The legitimate Palestinian rights are non-negotiable,” he added.
“No one has the right to make decisions on the future of the Palestinian people except the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the official and legitimate representative body of the Palestinian people,” Abbas said.
The Palestinian leader urged UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Security Council to assume their responsibilities to enforce international resolutions and protect the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
Palestinian Hamas group on Wednesday said that the Palestinian people will not allow US President Donald Trump's plans to expel Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to go forward.
Rejecting Trump's remarks that Gaza residents "have no choice but to leave,” Hamas senior leader Sami Abu Zuhri said such statements are "a recipe for creating chaos and tension in the region."
"Our people in the Gaza Strip will not allow these plans to pass," Abu Zuhri also said, adding that "what is required is to end the (Israeli) occupation and aggression against our people, not to expel them from their land."
Russia on Wednesday slammed US President Donald Trump’s plan to take over the Gaza Strip as a manifestation of the Western “cancel culture.”
Speaking at a roundtable meeting on Ukraine with ambassadors in Moscow, Lavrov argued that this “culture of cancellation” has now become particularly evident in relation to the situation in the Middle East.
Highlighting the decisions of the UN Security Council, he said that these decisions, “which were recognized by everyone without exception a month and a half ago as a necessary basis for actions to create a Palestinian state, have simply been canceled.”
During a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington on Tuesday, Trump said that the US “will take over” Gaza after relocating Palestinians elsewhere under a redevelopment plan that he claimed could turn the enclave into “the Riviera of the Middle East.”
US President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to other countries and to place the Palestinian enclave under the US control is “unlawful, immoral, and completely irresponsible,” said the UN special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory on Wednesday.
Speaking at a news conference in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, Francesca Albanese condemned the proposal and warned that it would worsen the regional crisis.
“It’s unlawful, immoral and completely irresponsible … what he proposes is nonsense,” Albanese said.
“It’s incitement to commit forced displacement, which is an international crime,” she added.
Albanese urged the international community to take a stronger stance, saying: “The international community consists of 193 states, and this is the time to give the US what it has been looking for – isolation,” she said.
Albanese dismissed the notion that economic incentives could resolve the long-standing conflict in the Middle East.
“For too long, the international community has treated the issue of Palestine as something that can be managed through development, economic incentives, and humanitarian aid,” she said. “Frankly, it doesn’t work.”
While acknowledging the importance of economic growth, she insisted that it cannot come at the expense of fundamental rights. “Peace through economic development is an expectation of surrender, and it will not work.”
“The only way to stop the violence is to give peace a chance through freedom,” Albanese stressed.
