NHRC Chairman Meets UN High Commissioner For Human Rights

Dr Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, Chairman of the Qatar National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) met today Prince Zeid bin Ra'ad, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

During their meeting, both discussed mechanisms for implementing the recommendations of the International Conference on Human Rights Approaches to Conflict Situations in the Arab Region. The conference was held in Doha from 20-21 February this year organised by NHRC and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers and the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions.

Among the discussions also included a set of humanitarian issues affecting the region, and also discussed legislative development and legal reforms made by the State of Qatar on labor law.

The High Commissioner for Human Rights lauded efforts of NHRC for its leading roles at the local, regional and international levels, which significantly contribute to the prevention processes and conflict resolution in the region.

Both sides agreed on the need for continued cooperation in order to protect and improve human rights situation.
