Islamabad, 16 June 2025
The Government of Pakistan has strongly condemned the baseless and dangerous report published by the Daily Mail on June 13, 2025, which falsely claimed that Pakistan had assured Iran of a nuclear strike on Israel in the event of a nuclear attack on Tehran. This report, citing a manipulated video of Iranian official Mohsen Rezaei, is not only factually incorrect but also constitutes a reckless act of misinformation with grave geopolitical implications.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad stated that there is no truth whatsoever to the reports being broadcast by Israeli outlets. 'These claims are entirely unfounded. The Israeli media is spreading misinformation and presenting false narratives about Pakistan', the spokesperson said.
Fabrication of Evidence:
The Daily Mail irresponsibly circulated an AI-generated video purporting to show IRGC official Mohsen Rezaei referencing a nuclear assurance from Pakistan. This clip has since been thoroughly debunked by independent fact-checkers, including iVerify Pakistan, which confirmed the video to be doctored.
No Official Claim from Iran:
Notably, the Iranian government has made no official statement supporting the claim that Pakistan issued any such nuclear assurance. This further invalidates the basis of the report.
Categorical Denial by Pakistan:
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar, unequivocally rejected the story during a Senate address, labeling it “false, fabricated, and irresponsible.” He emphasized that the video in question was artificial and warned that the article had incited unnecessary confusion in international diplomatic circles.
Violation of Journalistic Ethics:
The Daily Mail has failed in its journalistic duty to verify facts before publication, especially on a matter as sensitive as nuclear warfare. Such negligence amounts to reckless endangerment of regional and global peace.
Pakistan’s Strategic Posture:
Pakistan maintains a consistent policy of strategic restraint and responsible nuclear diplomacy. Any attempt to drag Pakistan into hypothetical nuclear conflict scenarios without credible evidence is not only defamatory but poses a threat to international stability.
Legal and Diplomatic Action:
The Government of Pakistan is actively exploring legal action against the Daily Mail under international media and defamation laws. This includes seeking recourse through UK courts, where the publication has previously been found guilty of publishing misleading content on Pakistan.
Pattern of Misreporting:
This is not an isolated incident. The Daily Mail has a documented history of misreporting on Pakistan:
In 2016, it falsely accused Maryam Nawaz of corruption, a claim later withdrawn after a successful defamation suit in UK courts.
In March 2025, the outlet falsely reported that 50 hostages were killed in a Pakistani train rescue operation, a report later refuted by Pakistani authorities.
The Daily Mail’s repeated publication of misleading and unverified stories about Pakistan reflects a troubling editorial pattern driven more by sensationalism than responsibility. In this latest case, by circulating a fabricated nuclear narrative, the paper has endangered diplomatic credibility and global peace.
The Government of Pakistan demands an immediate retraction, a formal apology, and accountability from the Daily Mail. The international media must act responsibly, particularly when reporting on issues of global security.
