Pakistan Condemns Indian Actions; Responds Firmly to Accusations and Suspension of Air Space, Trade and Treaties

The National Security Committee (NSC) of Pakistan convened this morning, 2025, under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to assess the regional security situation, particularly in response to India's actions following a deadly attack in Pahalgam, located in Indian-administered Kashmir.

The NSC expressed deep concern over the loss of lives in the attack and strongly condemned terrorism in all forms. However, it rejected India’s accusations and unilateral retaliatory measures as unjustified, politically motivated, and lacking legal basis. The Committee emphasized that attempts to link the Pahalgam incident to Pakistan were speculative and without credible evidence.

Reaffirming its longstanding position on Kashmir, the Committee reiterated that the region remains a disputed territory, recognized as such by multiple UN resolutions. It accused India of continued oppression in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), including revocation of statehood, demographic manipulation, and suppression of political voices, which it said perpetuates unrest. The NSC also condemned India’s broader targeting of minorities, specifically citing the controversial Waqf Bill.

India, the Committee argued, must avoid exploiting tragic incidents for political leverage and instead take accountability for its internal security lapses. It criticized what it termed India’s “narrative of victimhood” and pointed to instances of alleged Indian-sponsored terrorism on Pakistani soil, notably referencing the case of Commander Kulbhushan Jadhav.

The NSC further condemned India's statement issued on April 23, which it interpreted as containing implicit threats. It urged the international community to take notice of India’s alleged extraterritorial operations, citing recent disclosures of such activities by Pakistan and other states. Pakistan vowed to pursue those responsible for these actions and pledged to defend its sovereignty with full national resolve.

In a series of decisive responses, the NSC announced several measures:

  • Pakistan outrightly rejected India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, asserting that the agreement, brokered by the World Bank in 1960, is a binding international accord with no clause for unilateral withdrawal. Pakistan warned that any effort to restrict its water rights would be treated as an act of war.
  • Pakistan will hold all bilateral agreements with India, including the Simla Agreement, in abeyance until India ceases its alleged destabilizing activities.
  • The Wagah Border crossing will be closed immediately, with a return window open for valid travelers until April 30, 2025.
  • Visas issued under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme to Indian nationals are suspended, except for Sikh pilgrims. Indian nationals currently in Pakistan under this scheme must leave within 48 hours.
  • The Indian Defence, Naval, and Air Advisors in Islamabad are declared persona non grata and must exit by April 30, along with their support staff.
  • The strength of India’s diplomatic mission in Islamabad will be reduced to 30 personnel effective April 30.
  • Pakistan’s airspace is closed to all Indian-owned or operated airlines.
  • All trade with India, including indirect trade via third countries, is suspended with immediate effect.
The National Security Committee underscored that Pakistan and its Armed Forces remain fully capable and prepared to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any misadventure, as clearly demonstrated by its measured yet resolute response to India’s reckless incursion in February 2019
In conclusion, India’s belligerent measures have vindicated the Two- Nation Theory as well as the apprehensions of Quaid- E- Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, as encapsulated in the 1940 Pakistan Resolution, which continues to echo the sentiments of the complete Pakistani Nation .
The Pakistani Nation remains committed to peace, but will never allow anyone to transgress its sovereignty, security, dignity and their inalienable rights.
