Doha, 05 March 2026 (QNA)

Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of State of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani took part on Thursday in an emergency virtual ministerial meeting bringing together the Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union (EU). The meeting was also attended by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, reflecting the urgency of the situation and the growing international concern over recent developments in the region.

The discussions focused on the repercussions of the recent Iranian attacks targeting GCC countries and the broader implications of the escalating tensions in the region. Participants highlighted the serious risks such developments pose not only to regional stability but also to global security and economic stability.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed reiterated the State of Qatar’s strong condemnation of the Iranian attacks that targeted Qatari territory. He also condemned attacks directed at other GCC states and brotherly nations, emphasizing Qatar’s full solidarity with these countries in the steps they take to safeguard their sovereignty, security, and stability.

He stressed that the targeting of Qatari territory represents a clear violation of the country’s sovereignty and runs counter to the principles of good neighborliness. Such actions, he said, cannot be justified under any circumstances. He also noted that Qatar has consistently worked to remain distant from regional conflicts and has played an active role in promoting dialogue between Iran and the international community.

However, he cautioned that the renewed attacks on Qatari territory undermine the spirit of trust and understanding that has long formed the basis of relations between the two countries. Sheikh Mohammed underscored the urgent need for all parties to avoid further escalation and to return to diplomacy.

Calling for calm and restraint, he emphasized the importance of prioritizing wisdom and dialogue in order to contain the crisis and preserve regional security.

Earlier in the day, Qatar’s Ministry of Defense announced that the country had been subjected to several waves of missile and drone attacks starting at 11:51 AM. According to the ministry, a total of 14 ballistic missiles and four drones were launched from Iran toward Qatari territory.

The Qatari Armed Forces successfully intercepted 13 of the missiles, while the remaining missile fell into Qatari territorial waters. All four drones were also intercepted. Authorities confirmed that the incident caused no casualties.

In a statement, the Ministry of Defense affirmed that the Qatari Armed Forces possess the necessary capabilities and readiness to defend the country and protect its sovereignty against any external threat. The ministry also urged citizens, residents, and visitors to remain calm, follow official guidance, and rely only on verified information from official sources.
