Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani, Deputy Emir of State of Qatar, on behalf of Ruler of the State, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad AlThani inaugurated on Tuesday opening ceremony of Sixth edition of Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2018), being held at the Qatar National Convention Center.

Present on the occasion were Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, The Prime Minster and Minster of Interior; Dr. Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minster and Minster of State for Defense Affairs; and Major General Abdullah bin Hassan Al Sulaiti, Commander of the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces, a number of high ranking guests from various countries, diplomats and corporate delegates.

Maj. General Abdullah bin Hassan Al Sulaiti, Commander of the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces, in his opening speech  said “DIMDEX is the direct result of our Leadership’s wise vision that reflects Qatar's continuous role in enhancing the region’s security and stability, and unifying naval efforts for the major impact it has on the regional and global security.”

He said “The conditions and turmoil witnessed today across this vital region of the world certainly calls the need for combining efforts, enhancing coordination, and exchanging information and experiences to achieve the objectives we all aspire to.”

Barzan Holdings, strategic partner of DIMDEX 2018, officially launched today is sister concern of Ministry of Defence. Nasser Hassan Al Naimi, Managing Director, Barzan Holdings in his speech told that Barzan Holdings comprises on three key pillars Investments in Defence and Security sector, Research and Development, and  Strategic Military Forces procurement. Barzan Holdings also aims at enhancing military capabilities and a  hub for development of next-generation defence products, by enhancing national sovereignty, human capital, and transfer of knowledge.

Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah presented Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani with a ceremonial shield. Deputy Emir of Qatar later tour around the participating stands at the exhibition viewing the latest defence equipment, tools and systems.

The Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference 2018 runs from 12 to 14 March at the Qatar National Convention Center, Doha. In its sixth edition, DIMDEX 2018 is celebrating its 10^th anniversary, under the theme “World-Class Platform for Technology, Maritime & Defence Industry Capabilities.”

DIMDEX is featuring many activities including the Middle East Naval Commanders Conference, which will be held  on Wednesday, March 13^th, the exhibiting of the visiting warships at the Hamad Port, as well as VIP and senior officials visits from various parts of the world.
