Doha, Qatar, 30 Aug.2022

THE Turkish Embassy in Qatar marked the 100th anniversary of Victory Day on Tuesday. In his address on the occasion, Turkish Ambassador to Qatar                     Dr. Mustafa Goksu paid tribute to Turkey’s father of the nation Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the martyrs, and all those who fought for the independence of the country.

Present on the occasion were members of the diplomatic Corp, defence attaches of various countries and senior officials of the Turkish defence forces based in Qatar.

Dr Goksu said the Victory Day is the proclamation of the re-emergence of history and the rise from its ashes of a nation sought to be buried in history.

He said that as FIFA World Cup 2022 is approaching, “the Turkish people are very excited and happy for Qatar for hosting the world’s mega sport tournament, and Turkey will continue to provide full support to host the event successfully”.

Atakan Attar, Second Secretary at the Turkish Embassy, read the message of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the occasion. In his message, President Erdogan paid homage to all those who fought under the leadership of the father of nation for the independence of Turkey.

He thanked, on behalf of all Turkish nationals, the country’s friends around the world who shared their joy of festival along with Turkey. He said, “Today, we are living the rightful pride of reaching the 100 anniversary of the Great Victory. Our nation, whose history is full of glorious victories, ended the liberation struggle,
which it waged despite various kinds of challenges, such as poverty and deprivation, with a clear and undisputable victory on August 30, 1922.”

Erdogan added, “It was once again registered with the Great Victory that the lands on which we today live freely are our eternal homeland. August 30 serves as the clearest evidence of what the Turkish nation can achieve and what it can sacrifice when forced to choose between slavery and liberty. Instead of staying under the yoke of the enemy even for a single day, our nation walked to the martyrdom with bravery that scared the death itself and defended its freedom and future.

“The incidents that took place on the night of July 15 have once again shown that the unwavering will that inspired the Great Offensive is still alive in hearts. With the strength it draws from its history, Turkey determinedly advances on the path to building a bright and prosperous future for itself.

“Our country, which has successfully managed the coronavirus pandemic that has deeply shaken the entire humanity, is now taking steps to turn the global economic crisis into an opportunity as well.”

He said Turkey has taken the place it deserves in the new world system with its growing production capacity, its exports that break new records every month and the projects it implements in defence industry, as well as the responsibilities it assumes in the solution of regional problems.

Earlier, the event took off with the anthems of Qatar and Turkey.

A video recorded message of  Minister of National Defence of Turkiye, Hulusi Akar,  was played. Turkish Armed Forces Attache to State of Qatar, Col. Burak Cetin also addressed on the occasion.

Yunus Yildrim, Second Secretary at the Turkish embassy conducted the program.
