According to the statement made by TRNC Presidential Spokesperson Berna Çelik Doğruyol, President Ersin Tatar held an online meeting with the Greek Cypriot leader Anastasiades on Thursday upon the invitation of Elizabeth Spehar, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Cyprus .
Expressing his pleasure with the coordination of border crossings and the operation of all border crossings, President Ersin Tatar wished that this first step towards cooperation between the two sides would set a precedent for different areas of cooperation that are likely to be developed from now on.
Tatar also emphasised the importance of allowing all TRNC citizens and third-country citizens to pass through the border crossings under the right of free movement, without discrimination.
Leadership of TRNC and Greek Cypriot has agreed to re-open their 9 crossing points within the framework of the Coronavirus measures, 9 crossing points, some of which have been completely closed for more than a year and some of them have limited crossings, are reopening from today (4th June 2021). The 9 crossing points are as follows:
“Ledra Palace, Beyarmudu, Akyar, Metehan, Bostancı, Lokmacı, Yeşilırmak, Derinya and Aplıç.”
According to the agreement made by the leaders, the epidemiological situation will be assessed on a bi-weekly basis and then the appropriate level to be applied at the crossing points will be decided.
The levels to be applied are as follows:
The measures under Levels 1 and 2 will apply to all categories of people including third country nationals. Under the current conditions, on 4th June 2021, Level 2 (Orange) status will apply at all crossings.
