TRNC : UN Secretary General Guterres Congratulated President Tatar

Nicosia (TRNC), 03 Nov. 2020

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres sent a message of congratulations in respect of the election of Ersin Tatar as the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

According to the information from the TRNC Presidency, Guterres expressed his wish for the social meeting between Greek Cypriot Administration Leader Nikos Anastasiades and TRNC President Ersin Tatar, which will be held on 3rd November 2020, to be productive and stated that he wants to discuss with President Tatar the quintet meeting which will take place with the participation of Tatar, Anastasiades, guarantor countries and the UN.

According to TRNC earlier press release, a statement released by the UN, President Ersin Tatar and Greek Cypriot Leader Nikos Anastasiades have confirmed their intention to meet for the first time on Tuesday 3rd November 2020.

The informal meeting will take place at the Chief of Mission’s residence of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Cyprus, Elizabeth Spehar, at the Buffer Zone at 19:00 pm.

President Ersin Tatar paid his first visit to Turkey on 27th October 2020 after being elected as TRNC President. He met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. On the occasion, President Erdogan has warned Greece and Greek side of Cyprus that “It must be understood that no result can be achieved under the current parameters following a negotiation process that has lasted more than half a century”
