Discussions between Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan and United States representatives took off todoy in Doha 'opening a new page in their relationship' according to Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister, media reported.
The first meeting face to face since US forces evacuated from Afghanistan after a 20-year long war, which brought back in power the Afghan warriors to power since lost their government to the US-NATO invading forces in October 2001.
Afghan interim govt's Foreign Minister, Mullah Amir Khan Muttaqi, said the focus of the Afghan delegation was on humanitarian aid; implementation of the Doha Agreement between Afghan Taliban and the US in Feb. 2020 which paved the way for US complete withdrawal.
Afghan top diplomat said Afghan delegation stressed on US to lift its ban on the reserves of Afghanistan’s central bank.
He said that the US would offer Afghan people vaccines against COVID-19.
The Afghan delegation will be meeting to the representatives of the European Union.
The US State Department Spokesperson said yesterday that the talks were a continuation of pragmatic talks on issues like safe departure of Afghans, US citizens and other foreign nationals from Afghanistan.
He urged Afghan Taliban to respect the rights of all Afghans, including women and girls; to form an inclusive government with broad support.
