Former Dean of TAMU Honored

Dr Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry of Qatar and President of Qatar University Alumni Association (QUAA) yesterday honored Former Dean of Texas A&M University (TAMU), Dr Mark H Weicholdthe on his recent visit to Qatar University. Dr. Weicholdthe gave an overview on TAMU’s Association of Former Students.

Present on the occasion were Dr Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Dr Hassan Al Derham, Qatar University President, QU leadership and faculty, and QUAA members.

Dr Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada said: “It is a pleasure to host a renowned person in the academic field to outline the experience of TAMU’s Association of Former Students. Dr Mark H Weichold has been in Qatar for many years and he has a strong background in the education system in Qatar. We are delighted to get an insight into TAMU’s history, culture, and Association of Former Students.”

Dr Mark H Weichold briefed the audience on TAMU’s Association of Former Students and the role of the Association’s Board of Directors. He noted that the Association has been developed at the organizational level since its establishment in 1879. He further noted that the main objectives of the Association remained the same. He said: “These objectives include fostering the Aggie Network, strengthening links between former students and their alma mater, and serving the student body.”

Dr Mark H Weichold outlined the Association’s mission that includes the promotion of TAMU’s welfare and serving the student body. “The university still supports 450 000 graduates since 1979”, he said.

He added: “The Association organized 300 social, cultural, charitable and sport events in 2016, and over 282 events in 2015 and 239 in 2014. We encourage our current students to volunteer in the Association’s events and to remain loyal to their alma matter after graduation.”

QU Manager of Alumni and Stakeholder Relations Ms Rana Alfalasi said: “This event shows our commitment to benefit from the experiences of prestigious universities. We appreciate the role and contribution of our alumni in building a prosper future for Qatar. We are also committed to strengthen ties between our alumni and their alma matter and to promote the relationship between QU and the socio-economic sector.”
