Mohd. Jashim Uddin, the outgoing ambassador of Bangladesh to Qatar, was on Friday given a warm farewell by expatriates from the country at a gala dinner organised for the occasion by Bangladesh Community Qatar (BCQ) at Crowne Plaza hotel.
Present on the occasion were Eng. Anwar Hossain Akon, president of BCQ; embassy officials including Brig. Gen. Mohammad Sajjad Hossain, Defence Attache; Dr. Muhammad Mustafizur Rahman, Minister (labour); Mobassera Kadery, Counsellor (Political); Mohd. Mahdi Hasan, First Secretary; Tanmoy Islam, First
Secretary; Nashir Uddin, Third Secretary; and Kamal Uddin, Country Manager, Biman Bangladesh Airline.
Also present among the participants were leading community members from the social, professional and business sectors including author Dr. Habibur Rahman, Burhan Sharif, S. M. Faridul Hoque, Omar Farooq Chowdhury, Tazul Islam, Anwar Khurshed, Zulfikar Azad, Mashoor-ul-Haque, and Nurul Kabir Chowdhury.

Jashim Uddin Dulal and Mohiuddin Chowdhury handed over the traditional ‘Address of Honour’ to Saleh Nurun Nabi. The chief guest was welcomed by Saleh Nurun Nabi who extended best wishes to the outgoing envoy on behalf of the entire Bangladeshi community.
Kazi Hasan Billah read out the outstanding profile of the learned and highly experienced outgoing envoy.
The speakers also shared their experiences of working with him. They also spoke about his contributions to further enhancing the cordial relationship between Qatar and Bangladesh. All of them wished the outgoing envoy success in his future endeavours. The speakers included Safiqul Islam Babu, Mohd Kapil Uddin,
Shahjaha Shaju, Ismail Meah, Abu Raihan, Sayed Ana Meah, Jashim Uddin Dulal, Ahmed Malek, Kazi, Mokhlesur Rahman, Mahabubur Rahman, Nurul Alam, Aminul Islam, Hasan Billah, Shahidullah Haider, Nurul Absar and Saif.
Mohd. Jashim Uddin expressed his gratitude to BCQ for organising the farewell dinner in his honour. He also thanked BCQ for its support and cooperation in meeting his obligation towards the community affairs as well as towards the country.
Describing his tenure in Qatar, a brotherly country led by the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, as a memorable one, he said that the
memories will always remain with him.
Mohd. Jashim Uddin’s next assignment is as his country’s ambassador to People’s Republic of China. He has served earlier in Washington DC, Islamabad, New Delhi, Tokyo, Malta, Armenia and Athens, besides Doha. He has also served as Director-General for South East Asia and South Asian regions at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.
He said he was proud of the fact that a large number of Bangladeshi workers contributed to the development of the infrastructure in Qatar, especially for the historical mega sport event of FIFA World Cup 2022, which kicks off less than a month from now.
Pointing out that Bangladeshi expatriate workers are respected because of their hard work and honesty, he said that it was important for them to continue working with same zeal sincerity, honesty, and uprightness while adhering to the laws of the host country.
He appreciated BCQ for its role as the fundamental body in bringing all Bangladeshis residing in Qatar under one roof and wished them a prosperous journey in the future.
The event was presided over by BCQ President Eng Anwar Hossain Akon, and was conducted by Nurul Absar Babul and Shahidullah Haidar. A replica of the FIFA Word Cup Qatar 2022 was presented to Ambassador Mohd Jashim Uddin by Aminul Islam and Tawfiq Elahi.
Burhan Sharif and S. M. Faridul Haque, BCQ advisors, presented a crest and a gift, respectively.
