Sidra Medical and Research Center, Doha has been renamed as 'Sidra Medicine', it was announced on Wednesday 18th of October. Peter Morris, CEO of Sidra Medicine announced at a press conference in presence of Dr Abdulla al Kaabi, Executive Chair of the Children's Services Clinical Management Group, Executive Vice-Chief Medical Officer and Member of the Board of Governors, Prof. Ibrahim Janahi, Chair of Medical Education and Designated Institutional Officer,
Peter Morris said that 400 beds 'Sidra Medicine' with it's new name and new brand will start in-hospital patient services from January 2018 and full operation by May 2018.
Dr Abdulla al Ka'abi said this hospital will be the first children's hospital in the history of healthcare in Qatar.
"We will continue to provide care for women as we work with HMC. When we are fully open, we expect to have around 9,000 deliveries annually," he said. Presently Women Hospital, Hamad Medical Corporation is handling 17,000 deliveries annually which will be reduced once Sidra Medicine starts it's full operation by May 2018.
Dr. AlKa'abi said that Sidra Medicine will be maintaining Int'l standards in providing best health care and education to it's staff ensuring right environment for research to help in addressing Qatar's populations issues.
He said,"Sidra Medicine is committed to working with Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation and the Ministry of Public Health to help deliver new standards in high quality care for children, young people."
Prof. Ibrahim Janahi said,"My task is to develop the next generation of physicians who will be serving this country and to support an inter-professional development and training that Sidra will be adopting as part of its mission to become a beacon of health education and research."
Dr. Janahi told that Sidra Medicine will be providing complete practical facilities to the students of both medical colleges in country, i.e., Qatar University Medical College and Weill Cornell Medical College, Qatar Chapter.
He said that 180 beds state of the art Children Hospital will be the first hospital in Qatar's health history. On a question, Prof. Ibrahim Janahi told that presently children heath care facilities have been provided by Children Department of Hamad General Hospital which is a department not as a full fledged hospital.
Hospital Chief Operation Officer and Director of Services also addressed the media on the occasion.
