Qatar: Pakistan Minister Stresses Need to Foster Corruption-free Future

Pakistan's Minister for Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar  has stressed on collective efforts through capacity building, intelligence sharing, and mutual legal assistance as essential to achieving a corruption-free future. Talking to Editor, www.asiantelegraphqatar.com on the sidelines of the Second OIC Ministerial Meeting on anti-corruption on Wednesday, he reaffirmed that Pakistan stands committed to supporting these initiatives for greater accountability and integrity among OIC member states.
Pakistan signed Makkah Convention on anti-corruption on the last day of two-day OIC Ministerial Meeting hosted by Qatar concluded on Wednesday evening at the Hotel Fairmont Doha.
Azam Nazeer Tarar, Pakistan's Federal Minister for Law and Justice signed on the convention on behalf of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. In his address on the occasion, he extended his gratitude to Qatar for its generous hospitality and commendable arrangements for hosting the Second Ministerial Meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities of OIC member states.
He said that Pakistan remains a proud co-sponsor of the resolution that initiated this important process and takes pride in finalizing the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention during its Chairmanship of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in 2022.
He reiterated that Pakistan strongly condemns Israeli atrocities in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, calling for an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and accountability for war crimes and genocide.
He said that corruption, a global menace, hinders economic growth, erodes public trust, and undermines the rule of law. It obstructs poverty eradication efforts, improvement of living standards, and provision of quality education and healthcare. Addressing this requires robust national frameworks, international cooperation, and adherence to anti-corruption standards.
He appreciated Saudi Arabia and the Maldives for their initiative to promote integrity in the tourism industry and reiterate Pakistan’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption.
Pakistan's Minister for Law and Justice told Qatar Tribune that  'Today, Pakistan is honored to sign the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Convention, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law'.
He added that this milestone reflects the collective determination of OIC member states to combat corruption and create a fairer, more accountable society. The convention offers a robust framework for mutual legal assistance, information sharing, and capacity building among anti-corruption agencies.
Tarar said that Pakistan has consistently advocated sustainable approaches to fighting corruption. It has signed bilateral extradition treaties with 34 countries and established MOUs with nations like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Nigeria to enhance agency-to-agency cooperation under the UNCAC and OIC frameworks. Active participation in networks like the Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network, GlobE Network, and Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering strengthens Pakistan’s fight against corruption, he added.
