Doha, January 10 (QNA)
Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) said that the State of Qatar will deliver an amazing 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
Al Thawadi's statement came as he met with a German delegation from leading media outlets this week in Doha. The delegation was given a tour of key venues to see for themselves the progress Qatar has achieved on stadium construction and workers' welfare in preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar.
The 15 media representatives, who are accompanying Bayern Munich on their annual winter training camp at Aspire Academy, took the opportunity of a morning visit to Al Bayt Stadium - Al Khor City, where they also visited the adjacent Al Bayt Village, which houses the construction workers working on the site.
With the stadium rapidly progressing and seating tiers on the second level visible, the delegation then walked through the dining, recreation and living areas of the workers building Al Bayt Stadium. Later, they visited Al Bidda Tower in Doha and met for an hour with SC Secretary General Hassan Al Thawadi.
"In 2022, fans from different parts of the world can celebrate together, and experience the Middle East, a part of the world they may never have been to before," Al Thawadi explained to the group. "Fans don’t have to worry about travel in 2022, they can focus on football. The World Cup is the platform that brings people together. In 2006, the World Cup lifted Germany up. There’s a very strong commitment to progress and moving forward in Qatar." Besides receiving detailed information on stadium and infrastructure progress, as well as the various steps being taken to ensure the highest levels of workers’ welfare standards across SC projects, German media were also interested in what Qatar would offer the world in 2022.
"A lot of people are beginning to see the benefits and advantages of a winter World Cup," the Secretary General continued. "The players are coming in at their best, they will be playing at peak performance and not tired at the end of a long season. We can promise a fun World Cup, in a fantastic, hospitable nation, with great fan zones, great beaches, and culture like at the Museum of Islamic Arts.
"We say to families: this will be a safe and a great World Cup. Qatar will be something unique and new to world football. This World Cup offers visitors the unique, Middle Eastern, Arab flavor, just as other editions have offered something new before.
