Doha, October 04 (QNA) - HE President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani met Tuesday with the Qatari Olympic medalist who won their country the first silver Olympic and Paralympic medals ever.
The meeting took place at the headquarters of QOC to celebrate the historic feat. HE Sheikh Joaan congratulated Mutaz Barshim, who won a silver medal at the Olympics, Abdulrahman Abdulqadir and Sarah Masoud who both won silver medals at the Paralympics. Barshim is the first Qatari athlete in history to win an Olympic silver medal. He did so in the high jump competition. Barshim had won the bronze medal at the London Olympics in 2012.
The 25 year-old was soon followed by Abdulqadir, who won silver in the men's shot put. Masoud won Qatar's third silver medal in women’s shot put. Masoud is the first female Qatari athlete to win a Paralympic medal. HE the President of QOC praised the athletes for their perseverance throughout the Olympics and the Paralympics. His Excellency also praised their keenness on holding high the Qatari flag at such important venues.
HE Sheikh Joaan said that he couldn't express his delight at the achievement of the three Qatari athletes for their historic win. His Excellency added that the committee expects a bright future for the three and could not wait to see what they do next in their respective athletic careers. (QNA)
