A three day 2025 Qatar-China Film Festival concluded recently at the Katara Cultural Village Cinema in Doha, Qatar.
This significant cultural event was hosted by the China Film Administration, organized by the China Film Archive, co-organized by Wisdom House International Cultural Communication Group Co., Ltd., and received robust support from China Union Pay.
Over a hundred eminent guests hailing from the film, business, and academic circles of both China and Qatar were present at the inauguration. Among them were Liu Yuxia, Deputy Director of the Office of the National Film Fund of China; and Leyla Mohammed, International Relations Manager at the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding immersed themselves in the screening of the opening film, Detective Chinatown 1900.
In her opening speech, Liu Yuxia underscored that the launch of the inaugural Qatar-China Film Festival heralds a new era in film and cultural exchanges between the two nations, marking a transition from "distant echoes" to "face-to-face dialogue."
She expounded on the dynamic landscape of the Chinese film market and its unwavering commitment to openness and sharing. Emphasizing that five outstanding Chinese films had been meticulously selected for Qatari audiences, she extended a warm invitation to exceptional Qatari films to be showcased in China.
Furthermore, she expressed her fervent hope for collaborative endeavors between creative talents from both countries, aiming to jointly perpetuate the legendary narrative of the Silk Road.
Leyla Mohammed, International Relations Manager at the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding, remarked in her speech that film serves as an indispensable medium for fostering civilizational dialogue and mutual understanding.
She emphasized that this Film Festival signifies a fresh chapter in cinematic exchange between China and Qatar. "Film transcends the barriers of language and culture, conveying emotions and ideas while constructing bridges of understanding among people," she stated.
She enthusiastically welcomed more Chinese films to Qatar and looked forward to advancing pragmatic cooperation between the two nations in areas such as film co-production and talent development, with the ultimate goal of creating compelling and outstanding works that further deepen cultural exchange and friendship.
Earlier, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held with representatives from both China and Qatar taking to the stage to witness this momentous occasion.
The Film Festival spaned on three days, offering local audiences a splendid audio-visual feast. In addition to the opening film, a selection of high-quality Chinese productions with diverse themes were screened, including Pegasus 2; One and Only; I Am What I Am; and Decoded captivated audiences with their unique storytelling and artistic expressions.
