Indian Institute of Engineers, Qatar Chapter (IEI) held it's 58th Engineers Day grand celebrations on Friday evening at the Hotel Grand Sheraton Doha. In his keynote address on the occasion, the Chief Guest Sandeep Kumar, Deputy Head of Mission of India in Qatar, expressed his profound honor to address the engineering community, which he hailed as the fundamental architect of the modern world. He extended heartfelt gratitude to IEI Qatar Chapter Chairman, Abdul Sattar, and his team, and welcomed Qatari dignitaries and friends, notably from Qatar Energy.
India’s Deputy Head of Mission, Kumar celebrated the robust India-Qatar relationship, describing it not as a transactional partnership, but as a story deeply interwoven with goodwill and a shared "sense of belongingness," which has enabled the engineering fraternity to build a "resilient bilateral bridge."
Reflecting on the legacy of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, he framed the legendary engineer as a statesman and "architect of modern India," whose work in projects like the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam was about "building humanity." This legacy, he stated, exemplifies the Indian spirit of uniting diverse cultures to overcome challenges.
Looking ahead, he framed the theme, "Deep Tech and Engineering Excellence Driving India's Decade," as a mission. He issued a compelling call for purpose-driven engineering, urging the community to ensure that deep tech has a "deep positive impact" on humanity. He challenged engineers to be daring—to dream, design, and deliver with integrity and wisdom, concluding with a powerful mantra for all engineers: "Keep dreaming, keep designing, and keep driving the tech forward."
Earlier, in his welcoming address at the 58th Engineers' Day celebration in Qatar, Eng. Abdul Sathar, Honorary Chairman of the Institution of Engineers (India) - Qatar Chapter. Opened the event by affirming engineering's core mission: the service of humanity.
He paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya and highlighted the IEI Qatar Chapter's 32-year history of uniting over 200,000 engineers. A special video showcased the indispensable contributions of Indian engineers to Qatar's development, from the 1970s to the FIFA World Cup. Eng. Sathar extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, India’s Deputy Head of Mission Sandeep Kumar, and other dignitaries from the embassy, Qatari government, and industry.
Abdul Zameer, Honorary Secretary, detailed the chapter's vibrant activity, reporting over 25 events in the past year, including technical webinars on AI and cloud security, a dedicated Women's Wing series, and youth initiatives, all supporting Qatar's National Vision 2030.
The keynote address was delivered by Eng. JK Menon, Chairman of the Indian Business and Professionals Council (IBPC). He proclaimed a pivotal shift in India's global narrative from "Can India do it?" to "Wow, India can do it!"—a sentiment powerfully validated by the recent $10 billion Qatari investment in India.
Menon framed the theme, "Deep Tech and Engineering Excellence Driving India's Decade," as a mission, challenging engineers to ensure technology has a "deep positive impact" and to innovate with integrity. He concluded with a stirring call to action for all engineers to "dream, design, and deliver" a better future.
Eng. Ahmad Jassim Al Jolo, President of the Federation of Global Engineers, remarked that the "touches of engineers" are visible everywhere, and their triumphs make them worthy of a dedicated day of congratulations. He highlighted their work in all industrial sectors and future fields, calling for increased global cooperation. He specifically appreciated the federation's relationship with Indian engineers, stating it was a pleasure to work with them and have them in Qatar.
The Institute of Engineers (India) Qatar Chapter conferred a Lifetime Achievement Award upon Nilangshu Dev, a well-respected and dedicated Indian community leader in Qatar, in recognition of his exemplary community service. In addition to his community work, Dev brings 45 years of experience in automation engineering, with a career spanning major industrial projects in India, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar.
