She was addressing at a reception hosted on Tuesday 18th Nov. 2025 to mark the 42nd anniversary of the foundation of the TRNC.

Present on the occasion were HE Dr Mustafa Goksu, ambassador of the Republic of Turkiye; HE Muhammad Aamer, ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan; HE Dr Adish Mammadov, ambassador of Azerbaijan; HE Tchonai Elimi Hassan, ambassador of Chad; HE Hulusi Akar,  Co-Chair, Qatar-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Group, and former Minister of National Defence of Republic of Turkiye; HE Nurettin Nebati, former Minister of Treasury and Finance of Republic of Turkiye; visiting members of the Parliamentary delegation;   Sheikh Mohamed Khalid Al Thani, Advisor to the Ministry; Hamad Mohammed Al Nasr, Director of Trade Development and Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Qatar; representatives from Qatar Chamber of Commerce; diplomats; dignitaries; members of the business community; senior officials of the Turkish Armed Forces; alumni of TRNC educational institutions; members of the Turkish-Cypriot community; and guests.

In her address, Dr. Gurdal mentioned about TRNC as a vibrant, modern state that has flourished since its founding in 1983

She highlighted that a significant point of pride is today that TRNC stands as a modern, self-reliant state with vibrant democratic institutions. Its significant development spans numerous fields, most notably in its thriving education sector, where it has become a leading regional centre with over 20 universities. This academic prominence, combined with its warm climate, cultural traditions, and geographical proximity, makes the TRNC a second home for many.

Dr. Gurdal was especially pleased to note that many of these graduates are now contributing professionals within Qatar.

Inviting the investors, TRNC Trade and Tourism representative presented the TRNC as a land of opportunity, boasting a robust banking sector, a qualified workforce, and attractive prospects in real estate, agriculture, and a rapidly growing tourism sector. The country's rich history, natural beauty, and diverse attractions were noted as key draws for Qatari families and travelers.

She underscored major infrastructural achievements, like the groundbreaking underwater pipeline from Turkey and the new, state-of-the-art Ercan Airport, seamlessly connecting the TRNC to the world.

Dr Gurdal in her concluding remarks, reaffirmed the nation's international engagement and a heartfelt gratitude for Turkey’s unwavering support, echoing the call for broader global recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

She said that the strong relations and common values shared with Qatar are a source of great pride, and cooperation is expected to continue growing across all areas, from education and tourism to broader economic growth.

HE Dr. Mustafa Goksu, the Ambassador of Turkiye to Qatar, commenced his address by thanking the TRNC Office for hosting the event and acknowledging the visiting Turkish delegation. He then delivered a poignant message, stating that "the fate of a people depends on their strength." Ambassador Goksu firmly affirmed that Turkiye not only stands with oppressed people but will always remain by their side.

This sentiment was strongly echoed by the Co-Chair, Qatar-Turkey Parliamentary Friendship Group, and former Minister of National Defence of Republic of Turkiye. He stressed to international bodies to formally recognize the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people. He delivered a firm and decisive statement, declaring it unacceptable for Turkish Cypriots to be treated as second-class citizens and vowing that Turkiye would never allow such a situation to persist, emphasizing the nation's commitment to securing their rightful place on the world stage.

The event was graciously conducted by the Master of Ceremonies, Ms. Nazira Al Shanableh, a Turkish Cypriot student from the Georgetown University-Qatar campus, who led the proceedings with impressive confidence and skill. A highlight of the event was Nurettin Gurdal, the spouse of host Dr. Huriye Hangerli Gurdal, who skillfully connected the distinguished guests through his melodic Turkish-Cypriot folk songs.
