Qatar Amir Concludes Visit To Norway; Two MoUs Signed

The Amir of State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and members of delegation left Oslo today after concluding official visit to the Kingdom of Norway, heading to Helsinki on an official visit to the Republic of Finland.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Norweign Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store held today official talks at the Government Guest House in Oslo.

Jonas Gahr Store welcomed the Amir of Qatar and the accompanying delegation, praising the friendly and cooperative relations between both the countries.

He hoped that Amir of Qatar's visit to Kingdom of Norway would contribute to strengthening bilateral cooperation relations across various fields.

The Amir thanked Prime Minister of Norway for the warm reception accorded. He stressed on advancing bilateral cooperation in various fields as both the countries enjoy diplomatic relations since more than 50 years.

Both the leaders discussed on the possibilities to enhance and develop bilateral relations especially in the fields of investment, economy, energy, and international cooperation.

They also discussed key regional and international developments, especially developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories.

Present on the occasion were Chief of the Amiri Diwan, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani; Minister of State for Energy Affairs Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi,l; Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al-Thani; Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater; and a number of senior officials.

On Norway’s side, among the delegation members included were Minister of International Development, Anne Beathe Tvinnereim; Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide; Minister of Energy Terje Aasland; State Secretary for Defense Affairs, Anne Marie Aanerud; State Secretary at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Vegard Groslie Wennesland; and a number of senior officials.

Two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and additional clauses on avoiding double taxation and preventing fiscal evasion between the two countries were signed on Wednesday.

The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding/declaration of intent for military cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Norway and a memorandum of understanding on peace and reconciliation between the two countries. They also signed additional clauses to the agreement on avoiding double taxation and preventing fiscal evasion that was signed in 2010.

The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani attended luncheon banquet hosted by King Harald V of Norway and Queen Sonja at the Royal Palace in Oslo.

Among present on the occasion were Crown Prince; members of the official delegation of Qatar;  On Norway’s side, a number of Ministers and senior officials.

Jonas Gahr Store appreciated the exchange of views with the Amir of Qatar, regarding the urgent need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

He posted on his X account Wednesday saying, 'Honoured to host HH the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. Appreciate good exchange on the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza, the fragile situation in the Middle East, and Afghanistan and Ukraine. Qatar is a valued partner on peace and reconciliation'.
