Qatar: Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter Marks 10th Annual Gala with Vision for Innovation and Sustainability

Australian ambassador Shane Flanagan addressed guests at the 10th Annual Gala Dinner of the Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter, where he reflected on the strong and growing bilateral relationship between Australia and Qatar. In his remarks, he underscored the vital role engineers play in shaping modern societies through infrastructure development, innovation, and technological advancement. He also commended the Chapter for its continued efforts in promoting professional development, collaboration, and knowledge exchange within Qatar’s dynamic engineering community.

In his address, Engineers Australia Qatar Chapter President Abdul Zameer Sab welcomed attendees and highlighted the Chapter’s key milestones and achievements over the past year. He shared a forward-looking vision centered on innovation and sustainable engineering practices, reaffirming the Chapter’s commitment to supporting excellence in the profession.

During his speech, he introduced the 2026 Executive Committee, led by himself as President, alongside Ravinder Singh as Deputy President, Heba Mandour as Secretary, and Mohamed Ayaz as Treasurer. Committee members Hosam Magdy, Parveen Kumar, Moen Azmi, Ahmed Ismail, Wahid Geer, and Maureen Nso were also acknowledged.

Deputy President Ravinder Sason presented a comprehensive overview of the Chapter’s activities and initiatives throughout 2025, outlining the wide range of technical events, professional engagements, and community outreach efforts undertaken during the year.

The evening featured three keynote presentations by prominent industry leaders: Bassam Halabi of GHD, Abdelhameed Mohamed of ECG, and Moen Azmi of AEB, each offering valuable insights drawn from their respective fields. Dr. Lofti Belkhair, Dean of Barzan University College, also addressed the gathering, sharing updates on academic developments and progress within the institution.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of Fellowship and Chartered recognitions to deserving members, celebrating their professional accomplishments and dedication to engineering excellence. Sponsors, including ECG and Barzan University College, as well as volunteers, were acknowledged for their invaluable support. The chief guest and keynote speakers were presented with commemorative mementoes in appreciation of their contributions to the success of the event.

The gala was gracefully hosted by Ms. Hana Zayed, who guided the program with professionalism and poise. The ceremony commenced with a recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Shafi Mon, followed by the national anthems of the State of Qatar and Australia, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the two nations.

The milestone event brought together around 200 distinguished guests, including representatives from ASHGHAL, ECG, Barzan University College, GHD, PICE, various engineering bodies in Qatar, industry leaders, professionals, partners, and community members. The evening concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Chapter Secretary Heba Mandour.
