Dr Majed Mohammed AlAnsari, Advisor to HE the Prime Minister and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, emphasized that the future political administration of Gaza must be determined by Palestinians themselves, a principle he described as "unbearable" and non-negotiable. While international support on security, economic, and administrative levels will be necessary, Palestinian self-determination is paramount.  In his weekly media briefing, he elaborated on the nation's pivotal role in the ongoing Gaza negotiations and shared insights on the future of the region.

His comments addressed several key areas, from the mechanics of the current truce talks to broader political questions. Dr Al Ansari reaffirmed that Qatar, in partnership with the United States, has been a central leader of the negotiation dialogue concerning Gaza for over two years. This role is not diminished by current events but is instead an extension of a long-standing commitment.

He said that Qatari approach involves presenting proposals, advocating within international and legal frameworks, and pushing the involved parties to re-establish consensus.  The current focus, he stated, is on securing a practical and quickly implementable plan that is agreed upon by all parties and backed by guarantees, notably from the United States. While all parties have agreed in principle to a ceasefire, Dr AlAnsari identified that six specific obstacles remain, and the primary task is to create a practical implementation framework that ensures a swift, high-level international presence in Gaza to prevent any regression.

On the specific issue of the Hamas political office in Doha, the official clarified that its existence is a tool of mediation that has been in place since 2006. Its future is tied to the ongoing need for its role in negotiations, and it is currently premature to speculate on its long-term status.

When questioned about a proposed Palestinian committee to administer Gaza, the official noted that such statements are part of the current negotiations, where parties are working to understand and define the authorities and meanings behind various proposals.

Replying to a question about the Egyptian Foreign Minister's vision for a two-state solution with a united West Bank and Gaza, Dr AlAnsari expressed full alignment with this position, stating that Qatar has supported a unified Palestinian state since its inception and welcomes the growing international consensus around the two-state solution as the only viable path forward. This vision, he noted, represents a unified stance among Arab, Islamic, and most world nations.

Finally, Dr AlAnsari declined to provide specific details on the ongoing daily negotiations in Sharm El-Sheikh, stressing that the sensitive nature of the talks requires discretion to secure an agreement, though he confirmed that discussions are ongoing and progressing.
