Following her historic ascent of Nanga Parbat, Qatari royal and accomplished mountaineer Sheikha Asma Al Thani has been appointed as Pakistan’s Brand Ambassador for Mountains and Tourism. The Government of Pakistan made this announcement with deep appreciation, recognizing her extraordinary achievement and its significance in promoting the country’s scenic mountain landscapes. Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his congratulations on social media, commending Sheikha Asma for her exceptional courage, resilience, and determination, and describing her as an inspiring figure for adventurers everywhere.

Nanga Parbat, located in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region, rises to 8,126 meters and is renowned for its extreme difficulty, unpredictable weather, and deadly avalanches, earning it the ominous title of 'Killer Mountain'. By successfully summiting this treacherous peak, Sheikha Asma became the first woman from Qatar—and the Gulf region—to achieve this feat, cementing her place among the world’s elite high-altitude climbers.

During her visit to Islamabad, Sheikha Asma was warmly received by Prime Minister Sharif, who praised her as a role model for women and young girls worldwide. He specifically acknowledged her valuable contribution to promoting gender empowerment through adventure and high-altitude sports. The Prime Minister also thanked her for choosing Pakistan’s majestic peaks for her mountaineering goals, underscoring the country’s pride in hosting five of the world’s fourteen highest mountains—a premier destination for climbers and adventure seekers alike.

The Prime Minister emphasized that her accomplishment not only showcases her remarkable personal endurance but also strengthens the bonds of friendship between Pakistan and Qatar. In his official message, he expressed gratitude for her efforts in bringing international attention to Pakistan’s natural beauty and adventure tourism potential, stating: 'I am pleased to appoint Her Highness Sheikha Asma Al Thani as the Brand Ambassador for Pakistan’s Mountains and Tourism. Her achievement sends a powerful message of courage and determination and stands as a testament to the enduring friendship between our nations'.

Sheikha Asma, who is on an ambitious mission to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks, described Nanga Parbat as one of the most challenging climbs of her career. She shared her gratitude and reflections on social media, offering candid insights into the physical and emotional toll of the expedition. Her latest success is being celebrated not only as a milestone in mountaineering but also as a powerful message of national pride, determination, and women’s empowerment.

Known as the “Killer Mountain,” the 8,126-metre-high peak is considered one of the world’s most dangerous climbs due to its severe weather conditions and rough terrain. 'My ninth 8000er and one of the toughest climbs I’ve faced. This mountain tested me in ways I didn’t expect, from black ice beneath my feet to rockfall every few seconds. A constant reminder of how fragile life truly is', she wrote.

'But even in that danger, there was growth. There was surrender and there was strength I didn’t know I still had. I climb not just to reach summits but to return to what matters, to strip away the noise and reconnect with myself'', she added.

'This mountain will stay with me forever'.

Sheikha Asma raised Qatar’s national flag at the summit, becoming the first Qatari woman to achieve this feat. Her previous ascents include Mount Everest, K2, and Makalu.
