Today, Amir of State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, held a session of official talks with the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, at the Amiri Diwan.
During the meeting, the Amir expressed his deep pleasure at hosting the U.S. President on his historic first visit to Qatar. He noted that discussions would primarily focus on enhancing cooperation in the fields of investment, energy, and military and security affairs.
Highlighting the importance of regional peace, Amir of Qatar praised the longstanding relationship he shares with President Trump and commended the President's efforts to achieve peace in the region. The Amir described President Trump as a 'man of peace' and voiced optimism that their shared goals would be realized.
The Amir also congratulated the United States on hosting the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 and the 2028 Olympic Games, underlining the cooperation between the two countries in these major sporting events.
President Trump, in turn, expressed his sincere gratitude to the Amir for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He reaffirmed the strength of his personal and diplomatic relationship with the Amir, dating back to their first meeting, and conveyed his aspirations for further strategic cooperation aimed at promoting peace both regionally and globally. He also extended his appreciation for the Amir’s leadership and their mutual friendship.
The discussions covered ways to bolster strategic cooperation in various sectors, including defense, economy, energy, investment, education, and cybersecurity, as well as shared efforts to enhance global peace and security. Both leaders also addressed key regional and international developments, with a focus on the Middle East.
The meeting was attended on the Qatari side by Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs', Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani; Chief of the Amiri Diwan, Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Khulaifi; Minister of Finance, Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari; Minister of State for Energy Affairs. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi; and Minister of Commerce and Industry, Sheikh Faisal bin Thani Al-Thani; among several ministers and senior officials.
On the American side, attendees included Secretary of State Marco Rubio; Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth; Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent; Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick; Secretary of Energy Chris Wright; and senior officials from the accompanying U.S. delegation.
The Amir of Qatar and President Trump also held a private one-on-one meeting to discuss bilateral relations, regional and international issues, and joint initiatives to promote peace and stability.
The leaders witnessed the signing of multiple agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs), including a major aircraft purchase from Boeing, a Statement of Intent for defense cooperation, a letter of offer and acceptance for MQ-9B drones, and another for the FS-LIDS anti-drone system. Additionally, a joint declaration of cooperation was signed between the governments of Qatar and the United States.
Earlier, upon President Trump’s arrival at the Amiri Diwan, an official reception ceremony was held, featuring a 21-gun salute and a traditional Ardha dance performance. The ceremony also included displays by cavalry teams with purebred Arabian horses and camels, reflecting Qatar’s rich cultural heritage.
Later, in a post on his official account on the X platform, the Amir affirmed the strong bilateral relations and strategic cooperation between Qatar and the United States. He emphasized that the talks with President Trump gave new momentum to these ties, particularly in the fields of trade, economy, and investment, and expressed hope that the partnership would continue to develop for the benefit of both nations and their peoples.
