The 33rd GCC Traffic Week will kick off on Sunday, March 12, at Darb Al Saai under the theme “Your Life is a Trust”. Many institutions and establishments from both public and private sectors will participate in the celebration along with civil organizations, schools and universities.
Lt. Col. Muhammad Radhi Al Hajiri, Director, Traffic Awareness and Information Department announced today during a press conference held at the Traffic Headquarters Qatar.
The week-long celebrations organized by the General Directorate of Traffic will be opened on Sunday 6.30 evening which include different activities such as traffic awareness seminars, lectures, competitions, and other information and awareness entertainment activities during both morning and evening hours till Friday.
The morning events will be held from 0800 AM-1200 PM specifically for school students only. The evening events will be open for public starting at 0400 PM till 1000 PM.
The theme of the traffic week for this year, "Your Life is Trust" highlights the concept of safety of life to all road users by holding the shared responsibility on roads. This theme will be used for the next year also as agreed by all traffic authorities in GCC countries.
GCC Traffic Week is celebrated simultaneously every year in all GCC countries since its inception in 1984 in order to exchange experiences between GCC countries.
Participating delegations from GCC Traffic departments visit each other and exchange the latest initiatives, regulations, legislation and traffic activities carried out by the competent authorities throughout the past year.
Seminars and discussion will be held to seek ways of enhancing traffic security and reduce road accidents in all GCC countries.
The topics of seminars include:
Towards a unified media strategy to spread traffic awareness
Role of community participation in reducing traffic accidents
Role of old and new media in spreading traffic awareness
Role of infrastructure in traffic, and
Role of women in spreading traffic awareness.
The traffic week celebration includes seminars, traffic exhibition, outdoor stage for for awareness shows, entertainment activities, competitions, lectures, and special play area for children, traffic village, classic vehicles exhibition, Police dog show, First Aid campaign by Hamad Medical Cooperation etc.
Besides that a Souq Waqif pavilion will be carried out to showcase tradition goods, along with many restaurants and popular cafes.
Many driving schools will take part in the event and provide practical training and tests for new drivers.
There will be special pavilion for "One second" programme and Traffic Safety Engineering as well.
On the sidelines of traffic week the GDT will conduct traffic awareness short film contest whereas the con-testers can present short films under 2 minutes which can contribute to spread traffic awareness culture for the public.
