The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) of Qatar has signed a cooperation agreement with the Ombudsman Office of the Republic of Türkiye to foster collaboration and strengthen their partnership. This agreement aims to leverage their expertise to achieve sustainable and effective responses to humanitarian and human rights issues within their respective competencies.

The agreement was signed by NHRC Chairperson Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah and Türkiye's Chief Ombudsman Mehmet Akarca. According to the NHRC, the agreement focuses on enhancing cooperation, developing strategies, and exchanging institutional and technical expertise. It commits both parties to strengthen national legislative frameworks in line with international agreements, participate in training programs, conduct joint research, and raise awareness on shared human rights priorities.

The agreement also includes exchanging information, legislation, analytical materials, and best practices related to human rights. Both parties will support their citizens’ human rights in each other's countries and collaborate on fulfilling international human rights obligations. Additionally, the agreement emphasizes joint programs and projects, organizing conferences, workshops, and training courses, and preparing joint publications on human rights topics. Regular bilateral consultations and coordination with civil society institutions in Qatar and Türkiye are also key components.

During a meeting with Chief Ombudsman Akarca, Al Attiyah highlighted the importance of the partnership and expressed pride in collaborating with the Turkish Ombudsman. She noted Türkiye’s leadership in women’s rights legislation, including its commitments to international conventions like CEDAW. Similarly, Qatar has prioritized the promotion of women’s rights.

Al Attiyah proposed joint training sessions on combating domestic violence and violence against women to exchange knowledge, enhance professional capabilities, and promote dialogue on justice and human rights.

She also met with Advisor to the Turkish President Seref Malkoc, affirming NHRC’s readiness to collaborate with all relevant institutions in Türkiye to share experiences and best practices in human rights.
